In the past, the record labels, any record label, would take a new, upcoming artist under their wing and work with them to help them become a more developed artist. In the current business model of our industry, that’s no longer the case. Today labels, majors and indies, want someone who is ready to hit the ground running, someone that already has the skills and wherewithal to instantly shine in this highly competitive market. Working with a label today is much like playing professional sports. Most of the mastery of the game, the physical conditioning and the psychological grooming have come before the draft. The athletes have already worked with professional coaches and trainers on the college level that have provided objective direction, based on years of experience, that has transformed raw ability and heart into high-performance-caliber talent.
